Lab Serious Diseases

There are many Labrador diseases which one must be familiar with if he or she has a Labrador. Even if you do not have it but are planning to buy it, then you should know what problems your puppy could face. So here are some of the most common Labrador health problems.

Canine Hip Dyspepsia

This Labrador hip problem is hereditary. It generally happens in the male dogs. It is suggested that dogs with such a conditions should not be bred since its difficult to take care of them in this stage. If you see that your dog has trouble walking or you see some abnormality in the hip area, you must get X- Ray done so as to diagnose the problem. It generally happens to dogs who weigh over 35 lb. In it, abnormal development of the hip joint bone takes place. There is a wear and tear over the boney structures of joint and this problem can lead to arthritis as well. This was all about hip dyspladia in Labradors.

Retinal Diseases

Retina basically is a membrane that lines the back of eye. If there is any problem in retina, it directly affects the vision power and this could result in blindness. Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) and Central Progressive Retinal Atrophy (CPRA) are the eye conditions which a Labrador could suffer from. This disease is transferable to the offspring if the infected dog mates. However, you can diagnose this problem through eye examination. So if you are planning to buy a Labrador puppy, make sure you make it go through several routine tests to be sure that its not unhealthy.

So this was all about health problems that a Labrador could face. If your puppy has this problem, then go for treatment immediately before a stage comes when it needs surgery.

How can I know if my dog has retinal disease?

Fortunately, one can know about retinal disease just by taking your puppy for a normal eye test. So all you have to do is to take the test and you would be able to diagnose the problem.

How do I know if my lab has canine hip dysplasia?

There would be visible changes around his hip joint area. You can see that your dog is having problems in moving his body due to pain. Plus it is likely that he would not behave normally due to pain around his hip area.

How do we treat labrador retriever hip dysplasia?

If you are able to diagnose the problem in early stages, then medications would be able to cure your dog. However, if you ignore it for long time, then there are chances that your lab would need to undergo surgery.

Are retinal diseases curable?

Yes, but to a certain extent. If you keep ignoring your dog health issues, then they can grow to an extent when the problem becomes incurable. So whenever you diagnose your puppys problem, get it treated immediately without being lazy.
