Their coats can are usually solid black but can also be brown, white, or a patched pattern of black and brown.

Sometimes Canaan Dogs are white, but this is very rare. The Canaan Dog was originally bred in the 1930s from the wild dogs that lived in Israel. They were used, and are often still used today, as guard dogs over the flock, herding dogs, mine detector, search and rescue, and guides for the blind.

Canaan Dogs are a highly intelligent breed. They are very obedient and dependable. They are a gentle breed but also a very alert and protective one. They are wonderful with children. They are one of the most docile, gentlest breeds, but tend to only be this way towards one family. They are not overly fond of strangers or those they are not extremely familiar with.
