The skin color for this breed will be either gray, black, or brown. They may sometimes have markings or spots which are pink in color. All Xoloitzcuintle puppies will be born pink, and will reach the ideal colors after 12 months.

The Xoloitzcuintle is a breed which is highly intelligent. The are loving with their owners, and will generally keep to themselves. They will be cautious around people they are not familiar with. They work well with children, and are considered to be good family dogs. They are also excellent watchdogs. They will alert their owners if they detect something suspicious. This is one of the few times you will hear them bark. The Xoloitzcuintle is a breed of dog which is quiet. They are also easy to train. Because they come in different variations, they can live in virtually any environment. Those that live in apartments could purchase the Toy variation of the Xoloitzcuintle.

Health Problems

Common health problems for this breed include skin problems such as sunburn. Besides this, the Xoloitzcuintle is a healthy breed that has few diseases. They have a maximum life span of about 15 years.

Exercise

They do very well with children as they are gentle and affectionate. They do not tolerate teasing though and may nip if they are being mistreated. English Cockers used for hunting usually are too active to be family pets, but those not used for hunting make wonderful companions.
