The Redbone Coonhound should have a gleaming coat which is smooth and flat. Coat colors which are acceptable for this breed include red with a touch of white. The Redbone Coonhound is a dog which originates in the southern part of the United States. It was bred primarily by hunters living in the states of Georgia and Tennessee.

Their goal was to create a hound that was faster and had a better sense of smell than other coonhounds. These dogs are direct descendants of the Foxhounds. There is also some evidence that is is mixed with Bloodhound as well. The breeding efforts of these hunters produced a dog which was superior to other coonhounds in virtually every way.

Temperament

These dogs are patient and cheerful. They are known to be loud barkers. These dogs enjoy being in the company of those who care for them, but require training to ensure they dont become too overwhelming. They can live indoors, and will adapt to this way of life. Coonhounds were bred to hunt, and they can easily be trained to follow scents. The Coonhound will work hard to gain the respect of its master, and can work on a wide variety of different terrain under various weather conditions. Because of this, these dogs are especially suited to hunters.
