The true origin of the Pointer is not known. Experts believe it was bred from a large number of different breeds. The contemporary Pointer has been in existence for about 80 years. The dog gets its name from the stance it will make when it has located prey. The direction that the dog is facing will tell hunters where prey is hidden. The Pointer became extremely popular during the 17th century.

Pointers have traditionally been used as hunting dogs, and need lots of exercise. They are not the type of dogs that needs to be kept indoors. Owners will want to have a large amount of space for them. These dogs should not be purchased by owners who dont have time to spend with them.

Special Grooming Needs

Because Pointers have smooth coats, they are quite simple to groom. You will just want to brush them on a regular basis, and they can be given baths whenever it is needed. The dog should be dried carefully to stop them from getting the chills. Pointers shed standard amounts of fur.
