Description
The Entlebucher Sennenhund is a work dog that has ears which are shaped like triangles, and it also has small eyes which are brown in color. The skull is powerful and flat, and the jaws are powerful as well. The compact feet are designed to support the weight of this muscular dog. The Entlebucher Sennenhund has a smooth coat that should be black, white, or tan in color. It may also have patches which are a combination of these colors. The tail of these dogs will sometimes be docked, but it is not a standard for this breed. The Entlebucher Sennenhund is a moderate sized dog that will weigh up to 66 pounds, and it will stand at a maximum height of 20 inches.
These dogs originate in Switzerland, and are still rare outside the country. They were named after a place near the region of Lucerne. These dogs were bred to work in the mountains, and some believe that the Entlebucher Sennenhund is related to the Mastiff family, but little is known about its history. This breed nearly became extinct at one point, but was protected by Franz Schertenleib. Even though these dogs are rare, they are recognized by a number of different kennel clubs.
